HVCCs Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) attended the New York Regional Conference at Monroe Community College in Rochester held March 17-19. Once again, chapters from all across state were represented with chapter advisors, officers, and members coming together to celebrate all that is PTK.
Participants enjoyed presentations from NY PTK Regional chapters, networking opportunities, fellowship activities, and so much more! One highlight of the conference was the acrobat performance by Avi Pryntz-Nadworny, an award-winning photographer and circus artist. This conference and performance coincided with the PTK 2022/2023 honors study topic: The Art and Science of Play.
The achievements of HVCC were recognized and celebrated at the conference as recipients of the following amazing awards:
- Five Star Level
- The highest level of engagement in PTK earned by developing an Honors in Action Project and getting involved on the international level
- Honors in Action Theme 6 (Nostalgia as Play): 1st Runner-up
- HIA combines academic research, problem solving, and action-oriented service to address real-world challenges in our communities. Students gain job-related experience while creating lasting impacts in their communities as they engage in HIA.
- Excellence in Digital Media
- This award is presented for the maintenance of a Facebook page, Instagram, or website which documents all chapter events and activities
- Excellence in Phi Theta Kappa Programming
- This award recognizes chapters that promote scholarship through training sessions, workshops, projects, and activities
- Excellence in Community Service
- This award recognize chapters that have given members opportunities to serve and complete at least one community service project
- Chapter Progress Award
- This award celebrates chapters that can demonstrate an increase in membership, activities, or participation in regional events
- Most Distinguished Chapter Officer
- 3rd Runner-up – Dara Blanchette
- Most Distinguished Chapter Member
- 2nd Runner-up – Yazmin Hernandez-Merino
It was an honor to represent HVCC at the conference and showcase what our chapter achieved from a remarkable year of hard work! Alpha Xi Sigma strives for excellence, guided by the four PTK Hallmarks: leadership, service, fellowship, and scholarship.
