American Red Cross seeks volunteers to help with smoke alarm installation event on April 29

Editor’s note: The campus received the following message from John Madrid, an American Red Cross volunteer.

The American Red Cross is spreading the word about a mass smoke alarm installation coming up in Troy on Saturday, April 29. This is a completely free service provided by the Red Cross to those in need; it has the potential to save lives and property.

Volunteers are needed  to help reach a goal to install smoke alarms and promote fire safety awareness at more than 100 homes during this event. Volunteers also are needed to to assist with canvassing Troy neighborhoods with information about how residents can sign up for the free smoke alarms. No prior experience is required, but many volunteers are needed.

Every year nearly 4,000 people die in home fires in the United States. The Red Cross is working to prevent future home fire-related deaths. This program has saved more than 1,200 lives nationwide since it began in 2014. If you’re able to volunteer or would like more information, please contact me.
