Recap of April 25, 2023 Board of Trustees Meeting

Hi everyone,

Here’s a recap of Tuesday evening’s Board of Trustees meeting, which was adjourned in memory of Noah Kucij.

After a presentation by Alison Maddock, co-chair of the Academic Senate’s Educational Policies and Standards Committee, during the Curriculum and Student Life Committee meeting, the Board approved revisions to the “Graduation with Honors” policy, which was approved by the full Senate on April 24. This policy will take effect immediately so that students graduating in May 2023 will be able to take advantage of this positive change.

During the Foundation and Auxiliary Enterprises Committee, Cory Martin ’97, vice chair of the Foundation Board of Directors, presented the Foundation’s 990 filing, which the Board also approved. Form 990 is the tax form that tax-exempt organizations fill out each year to remain compliant with IRS requirements.

As we do every April, we invite students from the graduating class to speak to the Board about their HVCC experience and future plans. We heard from Norualkis (Noru) Baez Alcantara (Human Services), Ledina Banushillari (Engineering Science major and student trustee), Ivan Gomez (Business Administration) and Alexander Williams (Civil Engineering Technology).

As an information item, during the Personnel Committee, Deb Richey presented faculty promotions, as well as merit awards that have been approved by the president:
