PTK members making a difference, one candy bar at a time

Members  of the HVCC chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in Latham on Oct. 28.

They sorted through hundreds of pounds of dry, packaged goods including candy bars, cookies, crackers, granola bars, coffee, pasta, and various other food pantry items. First, they carefully inspected the packages for quality and expiration dates, then sorted them into their respective categories, and finally boxed and weighed them for distribution.

One of the highlights of the process was sorting through thousands of Reese’s candy bars that would be given to local children for Halloween in just a few days. Another highlight was the experience of working with other members of the local community that share the common goal of thinking of others in need and being proactive about making a difference in the community. This is why members are proud to say #IAMPTK.
