Avoid Extreme Heat!

As the temperatures rise this week, remember to keep cool and use common sense.

  • stay hydrated; drink plenty of water
  • replace salts and minerals
  • wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen
  • pace yourself and adjust to the environment
  • stay cool indoors and schedule outdoor activities carefully
  • use a buddy system
  • monitor those at risk

Heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable. Despite this fact, more than 600 people in the United States are killed by extreme heat every year.

Visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website for more tips on how to avoid heat related illnesses and FAQs about extreme heat.
