Grant awarded to HVCC Biotechnology Program

Congratulations to Dr. Donna Barron, associate professor of Chemistry, and Dr. Michael Shea, department chair of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, who were awarded a $30,000 grant through the MentorLinks: Advancing Technological Education program, with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Hudson Valley is one of seven community colleges whose proposals were chosen through a competitive peer review process. Over the two-year project, the Hudson Valley team will collaborate with a mentor from Montgomery County Community College (Pennsylvania) and colleagues from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to expand Hudson Valley’s Biotechnology curriculum.

The grant program is administered by the American Association of Community Colleges, and seeks to pair experienced community college mentors with extensive experience in planning and implementing advanced technology programs with colleges seeking support to build, strengthen, and sustain new or existing science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) technician education programs.
