HVCC PTK members to host Toys for Tots collection

TROY, N.Y. — Members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter at Hudson Valley Community College will host a drive-thru, contact-free toy donation event from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 on the college’s main campus on Route 4 in Troy.
All toys collected will be distributed through Toys for Tots, the annual community initiative coordinated by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve since 1947.
Donors should:
- bring only new, unwrapped toys.
- enter campus on North Drive and turn right into B-1 Parking Lot (in front of the Bulmer Telecommunications Center).
- remain in their vehicles; PTK members will remove the toys from all vehicles.
- wear a mask!
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs, particularly state and community colleges. Scholarship, leadership and community service are major pillars of the organization.
Lamyaa Hassib, an instructor in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department, and Dr. Renay Williams, an advising specialist in the Engineering, Architecture, Construction and Math departments, serve as advisors to the PTK Chapter at Hudson Valley Community College that currently has 847 members.
The Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce also publicized the event on its website.
On Dec. 10, the Times Union included the event in its Plan Ahead calendar.
