The Admissions staff took to the “road” this fall and delivered a series of Instant Admission programs at our area high schools. Virtual visits began on Wednesday, Oct. 14 and will conclude with the last one being held on Jan. 13 at Mechanicville High School in Southern Saratoga County.
In most cases the Admission counselors interacted with students and staff throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. via Zoom or Google Meet. Admissions staff re-vamped the entire program to be conducive to an online format. Students were also encouraged to use the new CRM Recruit application. The staff took part in 79 Instant Admission programs to date and brought in over 1,000 applications for the fall 2021 term.
School Counselors have shared that students are behind this year in applying to college. We are already having conversations about re-visits to most of these schools in late winter, early spring. In conjunction with these programs, Admissions has also conducted several on-campus Instant Admit programs, individual Admission Counselor appointments and numerous Group Information Sessions.
For the first time in the history of the institution, the college’s annual open house was delivered remotely on three different dates to a total of 79 prospective students. The faculty and staff did an amazing job sharing the details of their programs, answering questions and making themselves available to the students as they move through the application and enrollment process. Every session ended with an invitation to return in person when the time is right to experience firsthand our amazing campus.
What’s next you ask? Much like Santa’s elves, we are busy in our “make-shift” remote workshops creating events and programs designed to meet the needs of all those toying with the notion of coming to college. We just released our initial lineup for the winter and spring which will consist of: drop in Zoom appointments, self-scheduled appointments with one of our Admission counselors, virtual parent information programs with area high schools a myriad of Group Information Sessions (both pre-recorded and live), a Campus Visit Day and three Competitive Program Information Sessions. We will continue to add more High School Instant Admit Programs and continue to attend information meetings and programs with our community partners.
Please visit the Admissions Events page at www.hvcc.edu/admissions/events/ as new programs and events are continually being added.
On the home front, we continue to process, review and decision all applications for the spring semester while collaborating with academic departments, students and parents. Applications for fall are coming in and we are happy to say we are utilizing our new CRM Recruit management system to collect and correspond with student applicants. Although a work in progress, this system will enhance our outreach efforts to our students and in turn create a much more robust relationship between the applicant and the college.
As always and especially during this challenging time, we welcome new opportunities and suggestions for increasing the college’s visibility throughout the community and beyond.
Wishing you all a safe and festive holiday season!
The HVCC Admissions Team
