In years past, on a brisk upstate New York February morning, the faculty at Hudson Valley Community College gathered at the college’s auditorium for Faculty Workshop Day, our annual conference dedicated to professional development.
This academic year, we’re still gathering for FWD, of course, but we’ll be holding the conference virtually. And in lieu of a traditional keynote address, we’ve decided to put together a humorous and light-hearted compilation of video clips to mark the beginning of our event!
Here’s where you come in!
We’re hoping you might be willing to send us a short testimonial, vignette, or skit (a la TikTok) about your experiences as educators and humans during a global pandemic. Tell us about a new teaching discovery. Recall an uplifting moment. Share a funny anecdote. Like that time your cat tried to eat your hair during a Zoom class or department meeting.
Send us a short clip that’s anywhere from 30 seconds to five minutes and we promise to love you even more than we already do! Just make sure to keep your content PG-13!
We’re hoping these videos will offer some inspiration and levity to our event. We all need it after a year of so much difficulty and change.

Once you’re ready to film your video, please adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Film your video horizontally; do NOT film it vertically
2. Use the highest video resolution possible (HD or 4K is preferred)*
3. Speak clearly into the device’s microphone (or use an external microphone), and avoid unnecessary background noise
4. Do NOT record music and voice simultaneously unless you are performing a song yourself; otherwise, you must use video editing software to correctly mix more than one soundtrack
5. Use bright, strong front lighting to illuminate your face
*Note: most digital cameras, smartphones, and tablets film in HD or 4K resolution. It’s not recommended that you use Zoom to film your video, as the software records video at a lower resolution.
The video compilation will NOT be shared publicly, but exclusively for the faculty at Hudson Valley Community College on Faculty Workshop Day on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
