Beginning in the Spring 2021 semester, the Center for Access and Assistive Technology would like to inform all faculty that you will see a change in the appearance of the accommodation forms students typically provide to you.
What once was a form will now be a letter that the student receives directly from our office via email. Since the letter is generated through a secure system, the letter will not include student signatures.
As a refresher, the accommodation form is provided to qualifying students who have followed the college’s procedures to receive reasonable accommodations per the Americans with Disabilities Act. The accommodation form is a legal document provided by our office to ensure compliance with the ADA and Section 504. Please do not alter or modify any portion of the document. The form will come from the student to you.
After you receive the form, a discussion should occur between you and the student. The conversation should include the logistics of how to ensure the accommodations are provided. If you have questions at any point in this process, we request you reach out to a CAAT staff member for support and guidance.
Below is a sample of what the new document will look like for your reference. Please remember that the accommodations are not meant to provide a competitive advantage, but to level the playing field.
Sample — CAAT Accommodation Letter
As always, I thank the college community for your support and cooperation with our students. HVCC is considered a leader in disability supports and this designation reflects the efforts of our staff and faculty.
Thank you,
