The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on Jan. 19, 2021.
The meeting minutes are as follows:
Dr. Margaret Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m.
1. Middle States Update
a. Dr. Geehan gave an update on how the Middle States preparation is going. Kathy Petley also offered updates from the Executive Team. They reported on Dr. Ramsammy’s meeting with the Institutional Effectiveness group wherein he expressed his and the Executive Team’s enthusiastic support of the Self Study process.
b. Dr. Geehan said that Hudson Valley’s Middle States liaison, Dr. Bob Bonfiglio, will be visiting (virtually) sometime in April (date TBD), after he reviews the Self-Study Design document draft. He will meet with key members of the Middle States Self Study team, as well as Dr. Ramsammy, the VPAA and several Board of Trustees members.
c. Overall, Dr. Geehan reported that all is going well with our Middle States preparation.
2. Employee Satisfaction Survey Review
a. The group spent most of the remainder of the meeting reviewing the Employee Satisfaction Survey that is administered every spring. They went over many of the questions on the document individually, providing feedback if they felt changes or rewording were needed, and approving questions that they felt were good as they were.
b. Dr. Geehan explained that she wants to release the ESS to the college before SUNY’s Sexual Harassment survey is released. The ESS will go out in February.
c. The group went over four sets of questions from the survey individually, with everyone who wanted to offering verbal feedback. These included questions 13-16 set, questions 23, 24, 11, 28 set, and questions 25, 27, 8, 26, 29, 30 set. A screenshot can be provided for each of these sets of questions. It was agreed that a small group of COVID-19 impact questions should be added.
d. For question 28 in particular, Chrissy Smith suggested that it be reworded to “I am satisfied with the college’s efforts to keep employees informed about the happenings at the college.” It is currently “I am satisfied with the college’s commitment to continuous improvement/enhancement of the overall educational experiences of students.” Brian Vlieg agreed to work on rewording two items addressing transparency and shared governance.
e. Simple questions like “I am satisfied with the quality of the cultural programs and presentations offered at the college,” were kept the same.
The meeting was adjourned at 2 p.m.
The next meeting was scheduled for Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
