Tuesday, Feb 9
10 a.m. — Building a Resume – learn about resume types and what categories to include in your resume. Did you know there are four standard types of resumes?
Noon — Crafting a Cover Letter – learn the format and essential elements of a cover letter. Cover letters are where you explain why you’d be a good fit for a job, unlike a resume that summarizes prior work experience and skills.
2 p.m. — Talking with recruiters/employers – learn what to say, and what NOT to say when speaking with a potential employer.
4 p.m. — Job search strategies – learn how and where to look for open jobs. Job search sites are great, but don’t forget about the hidden job market.
Wednesday, Feb. 10
10 a.m. — Soft skills – learn about professional (soft) skills that employers most desire — communication, team-building, work-ethic and more!
noon — Building a Resume – learn about resume types and what categories to include in your resume. Did you know there are four standard types of resumes?
2 p.m. — Interview Preparation – learn the steps involved in preparing for an in-person or virtual interview. There’s more to the process than just bringing your resume! Learn how to answer those commonly asked interview questions.
3:30 p.m. — Interview Demonstration – Watch a live demonstration of a job interview with staff from the Center for Careers and Transfer. You’ll see what to do and what NOT to do during an interview.
Thursday, Feb. 11
10 a.m. — Completing Job Applications – Learn what to include in your job application and why they are important!
Noon — Job References – learn why employers ask for references, how to format a reference page, and how to ask someone to be a reference. (Yes, you have to ask them first!)
2 p.m. — Job search strategies – learn how and where to look for open jobs. Job search sites are great but don’t forget about the hidden job market.
4 p.m. — Symplicity – learn how to access and use the HVCC online job bank. Jobs are posted by local employers almost daily!
