Bias: A Human Condition in the Classroom

Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is hosting a Zoom training on implicit bias as part of its Black History Month offerings.

Please join us with your lunch on Thursday, Feb. 18 and 19 at 11:30 a.m. for this informative two-part series. Each session will be 90 minutes and will be presented by Tibisay Hernandez, MS.

This training discusses the neurological basis for implicit bias. Participants will be able to identify the different components that make up implicit bias and how these structures impact educational spaces. This data-driven presentation will explore examples from real-world scenarios where implicit bias was uncovered.

Participants will also learn personal bias mitigation tactics which can help slow down situations and reduce the potential for harm. Resources will be shared with participants on how to continue this lifelong work by creating a bias cleanse.
