Get up and move! It’s good for you!

Colleagues,

Whether working remotely or sitting at an office desk, it is important to remain active during the workday. Exercise of any kind can provide a boost in energy for the remainder of the workday and keep you healthy.

Sitting for extended periods of time is associated with increased health risks, including obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Being active during the workday can also reduce stress and the symptoms it can cause.

To stay active during your workday, consider the following tips:

  • Stand up regularly.
  • Re-engineer your work environment. If possible, periodically use a standing workstation.
  • Take an active lunch break instead of eating at your workstation.
  • Track your steps. You can motivate yourself to stay active by tracking your daily activity.
  • Take small stretch breaks at your workstation to extend your spine and loosen tense muscles.

The next time you have a work break, get up and get active!

Stay well,

Clem
