Last week, the Manufacturing Processes and Systems (MPS) class at RPI and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) class at HVCC kicked off a new collaborative project.
This spring, RPI students are working to create a scale model helicopter that also acts as a pencil sharpener. The goal is to create a simulated manufacturing supply chain network where the MPS students will handle engineering and design while the AMT students will take charge of manufacturing and production.
Together, the two teams discussed machining 300 cockpits for the creation of the Red Hawk helicopter model, which included defining plans for communication, standard operating procedures, fixturing, inspection processes, budgeting and scheduling.
The new collaboration adds to a growing list of exciting partnerships between HVCC and RPI, and offers hands-on, real-life experience for all students involved.
