NYS Coalition for Students with Disabilities Rally on Feb. 26

On Monday, Feb. 26, the New York State Coalition for Students with Disabilities will host a rally at the New York State Capitol. A proposal has been presented to legislators, with the support of the NYS Education Department, requesting funding aimed at “Enhanced Supports” for students with disabilities in higher education.

For many decades, the amount of funding provided to college students with disabilities in New York has not increased. Additional funding would go directly toward programs and initiatives to help college students across the state. Our legislators need to know that people with disabilities matter and are worth their investment.

The Hudson Valley Community College Student Senate will be providing bus transportation from campus to the Capitol on Monday, Feb. 26 and we are encouraging student, faculty, and staff participation. We would greatly appreciate faculty support of this initiative. We have asked that students check with their instructors and request permission to attend this very important rally.

Feel free to contact the Center for Access and Assistive Technology (518-629-7154) if you wish to verify student participation, or have questions about the event.
