Shakespeare & Company’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at HVCC on Feb. 22

Members of the renowned Lenox, MA-based Shakespeare & Company will perform “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” one of William Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, at noon on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Maureen Stapleton Theatre, located in the Siek Campus Center. This free, noontime program is part of the Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare.

The performance is open to all; no reservations or tickets are needed to attend. The 90-minute performance will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

A perennial favorite, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is one of the Bard’s most delightful, outrageous and comical portrayals of love, mischief and duty. The performance is the culmination of the company’s week-long residency – now in its 13th year – with students enrolled in HVCC’s Theatre Arts Program that includes a variety of workshops guided by the professional actors.

Shakespeare & Company’s Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare brings rotating plays to middle and high schools, and other community venues, from February through May each year. Begun in 1982, the touring productions now reach more than 20,000 students, teachers and audience members annually and embody the company’s educational mission to “immerse students in the world of Shakespeare and classical theatre in the most active and engaging ways.”

This performance, presented by HVCC’s Cultural Affairs Program, coincides with the winter vacation week observed by most K-12 schools. Please call (518) 629-8071 or email d.gardner@hvcc.edu for more information.
