Power 50: Profiles from the 2021 list

Power can manifest itself in different ways.

It might be the person at the top or an influencer behind the scenes. It’s someone whose ideas and decisions reach beyond a company, organization or industry.

The final group from the Business Review’s 2021 Power 50 list includes a philanthropic power couple and top leaders in higher ed. The full list includes people who are redefining the region in the midst of the pandemic and those who are adeptly leading their companies and organizations through major challenges, emerging opportunities and constant uncertainty.

Roger Ramsammy has been the president of Hudson Valley Community College, the second largest college in the region and the largest community college, since 2018. The college is a critical training center for the region, particularly as we look to come out of the Covid-19 pandemic. Under Ramsammy’s leadership, HVCC has made investments in its nursing and manufacturing programs. The college also plans to build a three-story, $65 million to $70 million training hub to position the two-year Troy school to help resolve a growing demand for skilled tradespeople. The technology center would be capable of producing 4,700 welders, auto mechanics, pipe fitters and technicians over the next decade.

What else to know: The moves that HVCC makes under Ramsammy over the next few months and years will be critical to helping the Capital Region rebuild its economy post-Covid. There is potential for the region to expand its manufacturing and offshore wind capabilities under new programs proposed at HVCC.

The Business Review also plans a print and online article featuring everyone on Power 50 list.
