This Week in Athletics

The spring season was in full swing last week, with all seven programs in action.

Baseball: The baseball team had a rough week, losing five of their last six games last week and they are poised to get back on track this week with Region 3 games against Mohawk Valley and Herkimer this week.

Men’s Lacrosse: The lacrosse regular season came to a close and they are set to be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Region 3 championships this Saturday. We are awaiting the official seeding for the tournament, but it appears the Vikings will travel to Onondaga on Saturday, April 27.

Softball: The softball team pushed its win streak to five straight games with key Region 3 wins over Jefferson, Onondaga and SUNY Adirondack. Softball is on the road on Tuesday at SUNY Broome before they return home for Senior Day on Thursday against Tompkins Cortland.

Track & Field: The track and field team had split competitions on Friday with a few individuals competing at the Cortland Classic decathlon, heptathlon and 10K events. The results count towards the NJCAA Region 3 championships, which was highlighted by Dylan Lawless, who won the decathlon with a score of 4289. The other members of the track and field team competed at SUNY Albany’s Bobbi Palma Spring Classic where the Vikings accumulated 20 top-10 finishes.

Women’s Tennis: The women’s tennis program took a huge step forward in achieving their goal of earning the program’s first Region 3 championship since 1998 after they defeated Mohawk Valley 7-2 on Saturday afternoon in Utica, NY.

Men’s Golf: The men’s golf team had a busy weekend with matches on Friday (HVCC Invite), Saturday (Adirondack) and Sunday (Mohawk Valley). The team continued to improve in each tournament and placed third overall in all four tournaments to date.
