This Week in Athletics

The spring season was in full swing last week, with all seven programs in action.

Baseball: The baseball team rebounded nicely after losing five of their last six games the week before. Baseball won two games over Mohawk Valley and then split its home series with #8 ranked Herkimer on Saturday. Baseball hosts Mohawk Valley this Tuesday in the final home regular season game of the year.

Men’s Lacrosse: The lacrosse earned the No. 3 seed in the Region 3 playoffs and was defeated in the Region 3B Championship game at Genesee over the weekend. Lacrosse finished the year with a 7-5 record.

Softball: The softball team is rolling with 11 straight wins after sweeping SUNY Broome, Tompkins Cortland and Niagara last week. They have away games at Mohawk Valley on Thursday and at Onondaga on Sunday to close out the regular season.

Track & Field: The track and field team competed at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI, on Friday afternoon in Troy, NY. The men’s team placed tied for fifth overall as they accumulated 55 points and finished ahead of local NCAA programs, Siena, Sage, and Saint Rose. The men’s program also placed first among the participating NJCAA programs, Mohawk Valley and Herkimer. The women’s program tallied 13 team points and placed seventh overall, which had the team finishing ahead of Mohawk Valley and Herkimer and local NCAA programs, Sage and Saint Rose.

SCHOOL RECORD: Kyler Alston has a record-breaking performance in the 400m hurdles as he set the Vikings school record with an official time of 55.51 seconds.

Women’s Tennis: The women’s tennis program remained undefeated in Region 3 after they defeated Mohawk Valley 8-1 on Friday afternoon. They are poised to win its first Region 3 title since 1998!

Men’s Golf: The men’s golf team had a busy weekend with matches at Jamestown and Niagara. The team placed third overall in both matches and the team continues to meet the qualifying marks for the Region 3 championship tournament on May 13-14.
