This Week in Athletics

The spring season was in full swing last week, with all seven programs in action.

Baseball: The baseball baseball team had its season come to a close as they dropped both sub-regional playoff games at Erie on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, NY.

Softball: The nationally-ranked softball team (#10) advanced to the NJCAA Region 3B championship after they defeated Monroe 4-0 and 6-1 on Saturday. The Vikings will travel to play No. 2 Corning on Thursday in a best-of-three series.

Track & Field: The men’s program accumulated 42 team points and placed seventh overall and was the top-finisher among Region 3 competitors, including the 2024 Region 3 champions Mohawk Valley. At the meet, the USTFCCCA Regional awards were announced. The Vikings claimed five national awards with Brooks Robson being named the USTFCCCA East Region Field Athlete of the Year. Kyler Alston was named the USTFCCCA East Region Track Athlete of the Year and Olivia Skylstad won her second USTFCCCA East Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year. Head Coach Jeoffrey York and Assistant Coach Dan Kennedy also garnered coach and assistant coach of the year recognition by the USTFCCCA.

The women’s program placed 11th overall as they accumulated 22 team points over the three-day meet. Highlighting the final day of the championship was the 4×100 relay team, who set a new school record with a final time of 53.17 seconds. The 4×100 team members were Olivia Skylstad, Abigale Dunlavey, Madison Washburn and Taiwo Omoya.

Women’s Tennis: The women’s tennis team placed fifth overall at the NJCAA Women’s Tennis National Championships, which concluded on Sunday afternoon in Chattanooga, TN. Keely Legnard earned her way into the No. 1 singles flight national title match after winning her semifinal round in straight sets on Saturday. Legnard went up against a national-power in Lily Liu, the No. 1 overall seed from Oxford-Emory.

Men’s Golf: The men’s golf team is set to compete in the NJCAA Region 3 Championships today and tomorrow at the Glen Oak Golf Course in East Amherst, NY.
