On Saturday, July 27, 2024, the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement hosted their first Caribbean Festival at Jennings Landing in Albany. People from across the region came together for a beautiful day to celebrate Caribbean culture, its people, arts, and local businesses. There was an exquisite selection of delicious food and drinks, a diverse display of handcrafted goods by skillful artisans, and an extraordinary showcase of talented musicians. The festival was a wonderful celebration of the diversity and traditions of the Caribbean community. It was also a special opportunity for students from the HVCC Honors College to participate and connect with the community. Students enjoyed volunteering by helping with set up and serving as event greeters.
A special thanks to the event coordinator, Ms. Dawedo Sanon, for welcoming us and giving us the exciting opportunity to participate in the festivities! A special thanks also goes to Dr. Catherine Willis, ECAR Coordinator and Adjunct Professor of Sociology at HVCC, for connecting us with Ms. Sanon!
