Mental Health First Aid Training on Campus Wednesday, Aug. 14

The VETROC is collaborating with  the Mental Health Association in New York State to offer a free, one-day Mental Health First Aid course on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Presidential Innovation Hall, Siek Campus Center, Room  204. Breakfast and lunch are included.

You are more likely to encounter someone — friend, family member, coworker, neighbor or member of the community — in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Mental Health First Aid teaches a five-step action plan to offer initial help to people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social or self-help care.

The course is geared toward veterans and first responders, but is appropriate for anyone who wants to learn how to help an individual who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or concern. Anyone can take the Mental Health First Aid course — first responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, human resources professionals and caring citizens. You you do not need to be a veteran or a first responder to attend.

Someone you know could experience a mental illness or crisis. You can learn how to help them.
