Cross Country: The Hudson Valley Community College men’s and women’s cross country programs returned to action following an off week and performed well at the 12th annual cross country invitational hosted by Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY on Saturday morning.
The women’s team started the day off with the running of the 5K course. Hudson Valley had three runners place inside the top-25 and were led by top runner, Olivia Skylstad, who placed 10th overall, with a final time of 24:07.
The men’s team closed out the day off with the running of the 8K course. The Vikings top runner was Shazim Permaul, who finished 2nd overall for the second consecutive meet with an official time of 29:44. Trevor Dzikowicz and Garrick Smith-Growick joined Permaul as top-10 finishers in the meet.
Football: The Hudson Valley Community College football program (2-2) had a day on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the New Jersey Warriors, 51-6, at the Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Vikings posted its best offensive day of the season, putting up 410 total yards with 202 passing yards and 208 rushing yards.
Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team finished the week with a 2-1 record, including winning two in a row and three of their last four matches. After being shutout, 4-0, to a tough Ulster team, the Vikings defeated Adirondack, 1-0, in overtime and then defeated North Country, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon in Saranac Lake.
Women’s Soccer: The women’s team also finished the week with a 2-1 record. They defeated Ulster, 2-0, and Adirondack, 3-1, on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, at home last week. They were defeated, 3-0, on Sunday to North Country on the road.
Women’s Tennis: The tennis program finished the week with a 0-2 record. They are traveling to Herkimer Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. and then close out the season with a scrimmage against SUNY Broome on Oct. 7 at home.
Women’s Volleyball: The women’s volleyball team defeated Mohawk Valley in straight sets, 3-0, on Wednesday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex. The Vikings combined for 16 kills, 12 assists and a season-high 15 service aces in the three-set match win against conference rival Mohawk Valley. Leading the way for Hudson Valley’s offense was Alyssa Bruno, who finished with a team-high eight kills with zero attack errors. Bruno also finished a team-best three solo blocks.
