Counseling and Wellness Services: New Ways November: Action for Happiness Calendar

Action for Happiness

The staff in Counseling and Wellness Services hopes everyone has had a great start to the Fall 2021 semester!

The Counseling and Wellness Services staff members are available Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person and via Zoom counseling, consultation, and the referral needs of currently registered students, but we wanted to share additional virtual resources that may be beneficial during this time.

Action for Happiness is a movement of people committed to building a happier and more caring society. People who want to see a fundamentally different way of life — where people care less about what they can get just for themselves and more about the happiness of others.

Please visit the Action for Happiness website for more information and resources.

Action for Happiness has created monthly action calendars that “are packed with actions you can take to help create a happier and kinder world” that Counseling and Wellness Services will share to facilitate a happier and kinder state of being for our campus community.

The month of November focuses on Trying Out New Things, based on the Key of Direction from the 10 Keys to a Happier Life (described further down in this article).

This month’s theme: New Ways November

This month, we’re encouraging you to try something new!  Learning something new or getting involved in an activity that really absorbs and interests us is great for our wellbeing. Keeping our brains active is not only good for us physically but it can help you feel you are flourishing as you see yourself make progress with a new skill, or just make you smile as you make a mess and decide to start again. 🙂  Being playful and trying new things is important, as is remembering that it’s OK not to get it right first time – change “I can’t do it”, into “I can’t do it…yet!” This month’s calendar is full of ideas to help you decide what to try next.

Trying Out New Things

Keep Learning New Things
Learning affects our well-being in lots of positive ways. It exposes us to new ideas and helps us stay curious and engaged. It also gives us a sense of accomplishment and helps boost our self-confidence and resilience. There are many ways to learn new things – not just through formal qualifications. We can share a skill with friends, join a club, learn to sing, play a new sport and so much more.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy second half of the semester!
