Fiesta del Norte will present the second of four noontime concerts offered by the college’s Cultural Affairs Program during the Fall 2024 semester. The concert, part of the campus’s annual Día de Muertos celebration, runs from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium and is open free to the public. No reservations or tickets are needed to attend.
Fiesta del Norte is an authentic Mariachi band that performs traditional Mexican folk and popular music dressed in traditional sombreros and “charro” outfits. The multi-talented musicians/singers perform Mariachis of Jalisco, Nortenas of Chihuahua and Marimba music of Chiapas with guitar, violin, trumpet, plus the stringed vihuela and guitarron. The lively program is enhanced with stories and cultural insights shared by Dave Giardina, director, who welcomes audience members to dance.
The Día de Muertos celebration is coordinated by Professor Malú Benton of the English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language Department, who creates a traditional ofrenda (altar) display in the Marvin Library to honor the dead that continues through Nov. 1. Please visit the events calendar for details about other Día de Muertos events.
Also contributing to the celebration are the Marvin Library, Student Activities Office and the Black & Latino Student Association.
