The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) assists individuals with paying the cost of heating their homes, especially during the cold winter months.
If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per season and could also be eligible for an emergency HEAP benefit if you are in danger of running out of fuel for your home or having your utility services shut off.
Eligibility and benefits are based on:
- Income
- Household size
- The primary heating source
- The presence of a household member who is under age 6, age 60 or older or permanently disabled
NYS residents may apply for the HEAP benefit at https://mybenefits.ny.gov/. Applications also can be made in person at your local HEAP district contact.
