Citizen Preparedness Training Today

The Education Club is sponsoring a free, one-hour Citizen Preparedness Training on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 1- 2 p.m. in Higbee Hall. All are welcome to attend this training, which will teach basic principles of emergency preparedness, response and recovery, in order to strengthen our communities in the event of a disaster, an active shooter event, or public health emergency. No registration is necessary.

The course includes a certification by the state, which is also recognized by numerous state agencies including OCFS. The trainers present a broad range of material, such as developing a family emergency plan, building a “go bag”, and important information on active shooter scenarios.

This training is led by members of the NY Air and Army National Guard and is part of the Citizen Preparedness Corps, a program led by the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) that was created by the Governor’s Office as a result of Superstorm Sandy, and the increase in active shooter events across the nation.
