In light of a few fire alarm activations caused by burned food, the office of Environmental Health & Safety would like to remind the campus community:
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FOOD UNATTENDED!
We ask if you are cooking in a microwave, a toaster oven or if you are lucky to have a stove, do not leave your food unattended. Several times a year the fire alarms are set off by burning food. This simple act first causes the local fire departments to be called out. There is the possibility of damage done to the equipment or much more, including damage to the building. It disrupts classes or activities no matter what the weather conditions are outside. And finally, burnt food creates a terrible odor that nobody likes, especially if its popcorn.
Please take the time to stay with your food until it is finished and enjoy your meal or snack.
