Wellness Wednesdays
Throughout the semester, Counseling Services will be posting tips and videos to boost your mental and physical health!
This week, we want to bring you a quick coping technique, the use of Diversions or Distractions. Diversions are a great technique to use when you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed because they are fun and things you already do!
Distractions can be any wide assortment of things you enjoy. Working out, watching a movie, talking with a friend, shopping, puzzles, reading a book, and taking a walk in nature are all good examples of utilizing this skill. Find what works for you in destressing your mind and body!
Often times, when we are feeling overwhelmed or anxious about our stressors, we tend to hold onto and obsess over these strong thoughts and feelings, increasing their intensity. However, tapping into these diversions can be great at temporarily relieving us from the strong feelings we are experiencing, allowing us to better manage them over time.
Find more information on this coping technique here.
