Ella Derbyshire, MD, a 1995 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and current village-based physician in Upalakleet, Alaska, discusses the long road to becoming a physician, and some of the unique challenges and rewards of serving as a physician in remote corners of the world. She has worked at Amundsen Scott South Pole Station and provided primary and emergency healthcare in remote Indigenous Alaskan communities.
