Hudson Valley Community College theatre students invite the campus community and the public to their Fall 2024 production of acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen’s “She Kills Monsters.” Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, 6, 7 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 8 in the Maureen Stapleton Theatre.
“She Kills Monsters” tells the story of Agnes Evans who leaves her childhood home in Ohio after her teenage sister, Tilly, dies in a car accident. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. Through this 2011 dramatic comedy — laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and 90s pop culture, Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
Assistant Professor Rosanne Raneri is directing the student-run production. The production is sponsored by the college’s Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department that is chaired by Scott Hathaway.
Admission is free for HVCC and all other students with a $10 suggested donation for faculty, staff and the public. Performances will run about two hours, including an intermission. The Maureen Stapleton Theatre is located on the first floor of the Siek Campus Center.
