The HVCC Chemistry Club is pleased to announce the results of our 2024 Chemistry Ornament Contest!
Three students submitted ornaments for consideration this year. They were (in order of submission):
A: a crocheted perchlorate ornament (chlorine and oxygen represented by green and red)
B: a HPPY HoLiDyS disco ball adorned with numerous chemistry-themed stickers (this student’s 5 year old son who loves science assisted with design and construction of the ornament)
C: a Microbacterium phage Krampus 122524 (printed in HVCC’s Engineer Maker Space).
We appreciate the students very much for taking the time to participate in the contest at this busy time of the semester.
Our esteemed panel of judges found it quite difficult this year to rank the ornaments. Their final determination was first place (a periodic table blanket) to the Disco Ball; second place (a beaker mug) to the perchlorate; and third place (a proton keychain) to the 3D printed phage. The judges are thanked for their deliberations.
