NY State of Health Essential Plan Available for Students; Learn More on Feb. 7

Health Services brings Rebecca Stern from the New York State of Health’s Essential Plan to campus on Friday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. until noon in the Siek Campus Center to tell students about the NY State of Health options for insurance plans. No appointment is necessary.

Many New Yorkers think they can’t get health insurance because it costs too much, but NY State of Health’s Essential Plan includes comprehensive benefits with no monthly premium and very low cost sharing for those who qualify.

It has no deductible, so the plan starts paying for your health care right away. It covers comprehensive benefits, including dental and vision, inpatient and outpatient hospital care, prescription drugs and more. It also covers free preventive care like routine doctor exams and screenings to keep you healthy.

You can enroll in the Essential Plan at any time during the year through NY State of Health. More information can be found on the NY State of Health website.

When Stern meets with clients, she also supports them in accessing other areas of need, including applying for food stamps, HEAP, home internet, etc. Even if clients do not qualify for the Essential Plan, they are assisted in applying for Medicaid, Medicare or Qualified Health plan.

Stern will be on campus again on  Friday, Feb. 21. Drop by the Campus Center  from 10 a.m. until noon to see her.

If you are unable to meet with Stern, please reach out to Julie Warren, director of Health Services at the Wellness Center (j.warren@hvcc.edu) for to get Stern’s contact information.
