Welcome Back From The CAAT!

The Center for Access and Assistive Technology (CAAT) would like to take this opportunity to share important information on the services we provide to students, staff, and faculty with disabilities at Hudson Valley Community College.

  • CAAT Location and Business Hours: The Center for Access and Assistive Technology is located on the first floor of the Siek Campus Center, room 130. The CAAT business hours for Spring 2025 are Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • CAAT Publications: The following brochures are available: Center for Access and Assistive Technology, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Policies & Guidelines for Alternative Testing Services.
  • Employees with Disabilities: Faculty and staff seeking accommodations may contact DeAnne Martocci or Jamie Anadio to schedule a meeting.
  • Handicapped/Accessible Parking: Handicapped spaces are available throughout the campus. Please contact the CAAT with questions or concerns regarding accessible parking.
  • Door Operators: Should you encounter any access buttons that are not operational, please contact Physical Plant directly at (518) 629-7356.
  • Scooters: The Center for Access and Assistive Technology has electric scooters available on loan for students, staff, and faculty use. Scooters are available based on individual needs on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Evac Chairs: Emergency Evacuation Chairs have been strategically placed in buildings throughout campus for use in the event of an emergency.
  • Distance Learning/D2L-Brightspace: Please contact the Distance Learning Department in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center (BTC), room 1042, or (518) 629-7070, if you have any questions regarding adjustment of settings within Brightspace to provide accommodations. The CAAT and the Distance Learning Department work collaboratively to support both faculty and student needs with reasonable accommodations.
  • Testing Updates: Starting this semester The CAAT office is using Accommodate to manage requests for test proctoring. Accommodate offers a secure, streamlined method for faculty, staff, and students to coordinate testing accommodations. The process for alternative testing remains the same: Students seeking accommodations for proctored exams must make their requests via the CAAT portal link on the CAAT website. All requests must be made at least three (3) business days in advance. Students are encouraged to make their testing reservations early and notify CAAT if testing plans change. Additionally, students are also encouraged to ask their professors when their exams will be for the semester if that information is not available in the course syllabus.  Once a student submits their request, faculty will receive an email notification directing them to Accommodate where they can review the request, share proctoring information, and upload the test files. Faculty may also upload test files and share proctoring information in advance of the student’s request. The CAAT will not accept paper exams. If there are any questions or concerns regarding the student’s request or difficulty using the Accommodate exam booking features,  faculty should contact the CAAT right away.

Please see the CAAT website for additional valuable information that is helpful for college faculty and staff to ensure access to college programs and activities for individuals with disabilities.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions on how we can continue to enhance the services and learning environment for students with disabilities, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you have any questions regarding testing policies, special scheduling, or accommodating a student in your class or lab, please call us at (518) 629-7154 or email caat@hvcc.edu. It would be our pleasure to schedule a meeting with you and the student to discuss any concerns you may have.

Thank you for your continued outstanding support and cooperation. Have a fantastic semester and remember we are here to work as a team!
