Friday Flex For Your Mental Health

Exercise not only improves your physical health, but it can have amazing benefits for our mental health. According to HelpGuide.org, exercise can assist us in managing our depression, anxiety, stress, ADHD, PTSD and trauma more effectively and in many different ways. Each week, Counseling and Wellness Services, will provide information about ways to move your mental health. Resources and videos are from various YouTube exercise channels and the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation, whose purpose is to “Integrate salutogenic approaches, such as exercise, nutrition and mind-body practices, into treating mental illness and promoting mental wellness.”

Week 3: Dr. Yasmene Mumby began her yoga and meditation practice eleven years ago while teaching middle school Social Studies in Baltimore City Public Schools. She was looking for a natural way to calm her rushing anxiety and restore her energy. She has completed over 800 hours of training in vinyasa, meditation, yin, and prenatal yoga. Off the mat, Yasmene is an essayist, organizer, and audiodocumentarian. Elephant Journal recently published her incisive essay, “Amplify Black Voices: Yoga, you can do better.” She is the creator of the NPR hosted audiodocumentary, Higher Purpose, about a Baltimore-based organization that supports people with legal system records seeking livable wage employment. In May 2020, Yasmene earned her doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

We hope you have a feel good Friday!
