This week, we want to bring you a quick coping technique, the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique. This technique is great when feeling anxious, taking a test, or other situations that are anxiety provoking. Simply observing your senses can bring your mind back into focus on the task at hand and where you are.

Above is a graphic with an easy five steps to utilize the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique. Focus on five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things that you can hear, two things that you can smell, and finally, one thing that you can taste. However, as you go through the steps of this skill, use identifying characteristics to describe what you are sensing. This will allow you to be more immersed in this activity and will be more beneficial for bringing yourself back to the present. For more information about the benefits of this technique, click here.
