Captains’ Council Kicks Off

The Hudson Valley Athletic Department had its first Captains’ Council meeting of the 2010-11 school year. The meeting was well attended as nearly every sports program was represented by its “captains” or representatives. Other administrators from outside departments were in attendance to explain the CASP program and give information on upcoming registration dates for 2011 inter-session.

The Captains’ Council is a program designed to give student-athletes a voice within the department on issues that pertain to their fellow teammates and peers. The council also will go over several different areas that student-athletes from all sports are involved in from leadership, dedication, teammate issues, winning, losing, nutrition, pre-season, off-season, injuries, class/academics, etc.

It is a roundtable format in which all in attendance can speak on the topic at hand. It will be helpful and assuring for the student-athletes to hear how people deal with certain scenarios and what techniques and strategies have been successful.

The members are encouraged to share the information from the meetings with their teammates and build leadership skills in the process as well as establish relationships with student-athletes from other programs.

All campus faculty and staff are welcome to attend the next Captains’ Council meeting on Oct. 11 and talk about what it is that their office/department offers for students. The council meets the second Monday of each month at 2 p.m. in the McDonough Conference Room.
