Tips for Submitting Exams to the CAAT Office

The CAAT office would like to share tips to make test submissions easier for faculty, students and staff.

When an instructor is submitting an exam into the CAAT portal, please follow the guidelines below.

  1. Submit the exam in its original file format.
    • Original file formats: allow our staff to remediate the exam for students who need a test read to them using our software (ex. Readspeaker/Kurzweil).
    • Common file types: Word documents, PowerPoint, Excel, and LaTex files.
    • PDFs files are not accessible and don’t allow our staff to remediate these exams easily.
  2. Put page numbers on the exam (i.e., page 6 of 7) to help CAAT double check all the pages were printed successfully.
  3. Submit exams days in advance to give us time to remediate, if needed.
    • Our current CAAT software allows instructors to upload exams without needing a student’s request. Essentially, you can upload an entire semester’s worth of exams now without needing to wait for the student.
    • Instructors can edit any uploads.
  4. If you are creating a math or science exam, you may use MathType/ChemType to create 100% accessible equations. (Please contact Rachel Holland to get training or access to the software.)
  5. If you are using Word, use the built-in bullet points or numbering.
  6. If you have images, make sure there is alternative text to describe the image.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Rachel Holland.

Have a CAAT-tastic day!
