On the HVCC main campus, there are Solar Powered Waste Compactors (SPWC) that are passed daily but often go unnoticed. These special waste containers are a boon to keeping our campus green and clean. They cut costs up to 80 percent, hold more waste by compacting it, they help slow the rate of landfills growing, and collection vehicles drive fewer miles thereby reducing emissions.
The knowledge of understanding the benefits and use of SPWCs is equally as important as their location at Hudson Valley Community College. The campus community is invited to participate in a fun and educational scavenger hunt to locate the six SPWC’s.
Scavenger Hunt sheets can be found at the following locations:
Marvin Library across from the borrowing desk
Admissions Office in Guenther (on the windowsill)
Print the Scavenger Hunt Form to participate. Completed sheets are due by Friday, Feb. 28.
Five people will be selected to win prizes!
Send the completed forms to p-sanford2@hvcc.edu, g-purcell4@hvcc.edu or slip them under the door of AMZ 314 to be entered into the giveaway. Faculty, staff and students are all welcome to participate!!
Special thanks to Honors College students Paige Sanford and Gerald Purcell for their passion for a clean environment and spearheading the scavenger hunt to educate the campus community!
