Recap of Board of Trustees Meeting of Tuesday, Feb. 22

 

The Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

There were four committee meetings:

  • Audit and Finance — Donal Christian, VP of Administration and CFO, provided an update of the college’s current budget position.
  • Foundation and Auxiliary Enterprises — Brian Kearns of UHY, LLP, reviewed highlights from the Foundation’s FY 2021 audit.
  • Personnel — Dr. Lucille Marion, VP and Executive Director of the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), reviewed the key provisions of the successor agreement between the EOC and the EOC Alliance. Karen Paquette, Executive Director of Human Resources, reviewed the list of new employees that have been hired, as well as the resignations and retirements.  The Board expressed their best wishes to all those leaving HVCC.
  • Executive Committee — President Ramsammy discussed HVCC’s current enrollment as compared with other SUNY community colleges. He then asked Dr. Margaret Geehan to provide the Board with an update on our Middle States progress.

The regular Board meeting began shortly after 5 p.m. The Board unanimously approved four resolutions:

  1. Accepted the monthly minutes of the January 2022 meeting, which are posted on the Board’s web page.
  2. Approved the successor agreement between the EOC and the EOC Alliance.
  3. Approved the Foundation’s FY 2021 Audit.
  4. Delegated authority to Chairman Kelleher to execute a third amended and restated contract for employment between the Board and President Ramsammy. When completed, the contract will run through Aug. 31, 2026.

The information items on the agenda included:

The hiring of four full-time employees.  Please welcome:

  • Kelly Bunkley, confidential administrative assistant, who joins the team directly supporting President Ramsammy and Louis Coplin, VP of Student Affairs;
  • Meredith O’Connor, coordinator of Workforce Programs and Jennifer Devine, NYSERDA grant manager, who both join the Office of Economic Development and Workforce Initiatives; and
  • Deron Clark, program assistant, Academics III, who joins the team at TEC-SMART.

Five resignations:

  • Kari Benn, instructor, EOC
  • Leslie Davis, advisement coordinator, School of STEM
  • Diane Dreifus, advising specialist, Individual Studies and Liberal Arts. Diane is now an adjunct instructor.
  • Megan McGreevy, advising specialist, Business and Criminal Justice
  • Gina Ricci, director of budget

Two Retirements:

  • Dr. Lucille Marion, VP and executive director of the EOC, who retires in May.  Dr. Marion has been with the college since 1983.
  • Christopher Testo, HVAC Technician in Facilities, who has been with the college for nearly 31 years.

The agenda also included 13 appointments to the Individual Studies and Liberal Arts Advisory Board.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held in the Guenther Board room on Tuesday, March 22, starting with committee meetings at 4:30 p.m. and followed by the monthly meeting at 5 p.m. or thereafter.  All meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend in person or watch the live stream on the college’s website.
