HVCC Students Honored at SUNY Empire State Service Corps Summit!

HVCC students Molly Graiff and John Quackenbush are serving this year as members of SUNY’s new Empire State Service Corps (ESSC) initiative. During the March 1 weekend, Molly and John attended the inaugural Summit for the ESSC, gathering together with corps members from 45 different SUNY campuses to engage with and learn from their peers. They also gained insight from guest speakers (including Chancellor John King) and community organizations specific to their area of service.

During the summit, Molly received the Cohort Champion Award, recognizing her consistent and exceptional involvement in her cohort area and for working to empower others/peers through her mentoring, advocacy, or community reach.

John received the Innovative Service Award, recognizing his creative and unique solutions to community issues, through a student-led initiative/project or service that has had a lasting, transformative impact on a community/cause.

Congratulations to both Molly and John!

Molly is majoring in Early Childhood and Childhood Education Studies and John’s major is Computer Information Systems. Both are Honor’s College Students. As ESSC members, Molly and John chose the Basic Needs Outreach Corps and are completing 300 hours of paid public service in that area through the Student Success Center and Student Activities Viking Cupboard.

ESSC is coordinated by the Center for Careers and Transfer and is open to all students with an interest in service. More information to come about the ESSC and additional opportunities!
