In Memoriam: Anne Sullivan Morgan

The Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) Foundation wishes to honor the memory of Mrs. Anne Sullivan Morgan, who passed away at the age of 94. Mrs. Morgan held teaching positions at SUNY Potsdam and Troy High School before retiring from HVCC, where she was granted the title of Professor Emeritus in recognition of her dedicated 30 years of service.

Beyond her academic contributions, Mrs. Morgan was a committed philanthropist and was very involved with the Foundation, establishing scholarships that have significantly impacted the lives of our students. Recipients of the Dr. Frank J. Morgan Jr. Memorial Scholarship and the John & Marguerite LaPan Memorial Scholarship have expressed profound gratitude for her generosity.

Sara Lasher, a student in Individual Studies, shared, “As a single working mother, this scholarship will make a huge difference in my ability to afford to complete this level of education here at HVCC.”

Connor Danz, an active member of the HVCC community, noted, “By awarding me this scholarship, it shows to me that HVCC is willing to invest itself in my future and is willing to help me pursue my educational goals while I am a part of the Hudson Valley community.”

Mechanical Engineering major Ghazali Shaikh expressed, “Your generosity has lightened my financial load and allowed me to focus more on my studies without constant financial stress.”

Kara Halse, also pursuing Mechanical Engineering, mentioned, “This scholarship will aid me, so I don’t have to work as much to afford rent, leaving me more time for my studies.”

Another Mechanical Engineering student, who commutes from Saugerties and participates on the HVCC golf team, stated, “This scholarship will help take some of the financial burden I am incurring.”

Longtime friend and pillar of Hudson Valley Community College, Suzanne Kalkbrenner shared, “Anne was an amazing woman. I miss her being around.”

Mrs. Morgan’s legacy of service, education, and philanthropy continues to inspire and uplift the HVCC community. Her commitment to supporting students’ educational journeys has left an indelible mark on our institution. Her obituary can be found here.
