Sad News: A Legend Has Passed

The Admissions Office sadly shares news of Robert “Bob” Swanick’s passing with the HVCC Campus Community. He died peacefully on April 28 surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Bob’s retirement day in 2018

Bob was a veteran, a former high school technology teacher, a former principal at two local schools and worked at Hudson Valley for many years, first in our Career Office and later in Admissions – until the age of 84. He made many friends over the years in our high schools doing our Instant Admission visits and was loved by all who knew him.

While working here, Bob and Joyce suffered the loss of their daughter, Karen. Because of his love for the college and how proud he was of his daughters and their careers in healthcare, he and Joyce created a nursing scholarship in Karen’s memory.

There are not enough words to express how impactful Bob was to Hudson Valley and the Admissions Office. In the words of Clarence in the film, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.” Bob had many friends who loved him dearly. He will be missed.
