Nabeel Amjad, a part-time educational specialist in the Learning Assistance Center, participated May 10 in the 219th commencement ceremony at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, earning a Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering.
During the department’s celebration on May 8, Amjad received the Bimal K. Malaviya Graduate Teaching Assistant Award, along with a $1,000 check. Established by Professor Malaviya in 2017, the award recognizes graduate teaching assistants who go above and beyond in supporting student learning and academic excellence.
In addition, Amjad has accepted a full-time lecturer position at RPI, beginning Aug. 16. “I’ll be joining the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering – the very department where I’ve completed my graduate studies. I’m thrilled and grateful about this opportunity and also happy to share that I’ll be continuing as a part-timer at HVCC. HVCC holds a special place in my heart and I truly appreciate all that it has given me,” he said.
Amjad received his doctoral hood from his Ph.D. advisor, Professor Catalin Picu, during a May 9 ceremony, and was photographed with Professor Antoinette Maniatty, head of the Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering Department, and Professor Malaviya at the awards ceremony.
