Dear Colleagues,
I seldom send out group e-mails however I am making this exception because I am hoping you will announce to your students that the Habitat for Humanity Student Chapter will be holding its first meeting of the year this Monday, October 4th in Lang 111 at 2 p.m.
This Monday is the perfect day to kick off our chapter because Monday also is World Habitat Day 2010 and events are being organized across the world for this organization. So please help HVCC to be part of this important celebration by supporting our club.
Please let your students know that our student chapter has something for everyone. Although students in Engineering Sciences, Civil Tech, Construction Tech or Architecture seem obvious choices to belong to this club, Habitat International requires we have four varied and distinct functions. They are:
o Building
o Fundraising
o Advocating
o Educating
Students in the social sciences, business, criminal justice and education fields, to name just a few, all are important to this club. We also need facebook and Web support specialists. So please, won’t you take a few minutes in your next class to let them know of our meeting this Monday in Lang? Even better please print and post the attached announcement.
By the way, the first house we will be working on this year was designed by an HVCC graduate and is being built here in Troy. Activities we talked about last year included a tentathon to raise awareness (and funds) on homelessness, bake sales, public awareness campaigns and of course house builds.
One last item, should any of you want to co-advise I could use the help. Thanks and hope to see your students.
Sue Kilgallon
