Recap of Board of Trustees Meeting of Tuesday, April 26

 

The Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 26.

Prior to the meeting, Louis Coplin, VP of Student Affairs, introduced six members of the Class of 2022, who shared their HVCC experience with the Board. Our thanks to Dara Blanchett, Talia Edwards, Sienna Hicks, Ngoc Nguyen, Emma Nuzzi and Isabella Smarro for their wonderful presentations.

There were six committee meetings:

  • Audit and Finance — Donal Christian, VP of Administration and CFO, provided an update of the college’s current budget position.
  • Building and Grounds — VP Christian reviewed the recommendations for the award of contracts related to the construction of the HVCC North Expansion.
  • Curriculum and Student Life Committee — Judy DiLorenzo, VP of Academic Affairs, explained the three curriculum proposals approved by the Academic Senate and the President: Deactivation of the Entrepreneurship Certificate; changes to the degree requirements in the Nursing A.A.S. program; and the addition of a new course, Pharmacology.
  • Foundation and Auxiliary Enterprises — Regina LaGatta, VP of External and Government Affairs, reviewed the Foundation’s 990 Filing.
  • Personnel — Karen Paquette, Executive Director of Human Resources, reviewed the list of faculty promotions, department chair and merit awards, new employees who have been hired, as well as the resignations and retirements.  The Board expressed their best wishes to all those leaving HVCC.
  • Executive Committee — Dr. Margaret Geehan and Associate Professor Joseph Stenard provided the Board with an update on our Middle States progress.

The regular Board meeting began at 5:12 p.m. The Board approved eight resolutions:

  • Accepted the monthly minutes of the March 29 meeting, which are posted on the Board’s web page.
  • Approved the five awards of contracts for the HVCC North Expansion.
  • Approved the curriculum items.
  • Approved the Foundation’s 990 Filing.

  • Dr. Denise Fernandez-Pallozzi, executive director of the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center, succeeding Dr. Lucille Marion, who retires on on May 27.
  • Enas Alnasari, who joins HR as a Human Resources Generalist.
  • Heather Henry, who is now the Human Resources Administrator; and
  • Therese DeCan, who is now the Head Coach of the Volleyball Team.

Three resignations:

  • Cynthia Decker, Assistant Director of Financial Aid
  • Amy Hathaway, Access Services Librarian
  • Carina Teator, Manager of Grants

Four Retirements:

  • Maria C. Pollack, Assistant Professor, English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language (May 2022)
  • Sandra J. Myers, Technical Assistant, Financial Aid (June 2022)
  • Rochelle Goldfarb, Assistant Professor, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Computer Science & Mathematics (May 2023)
  • Richard G. Wood Jr., Assistant Professor, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Computer Science & Mathematics (May 2023)

The agenda also included the appointment of Matthew G. Cushing ’95 of Owens Corning to the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Advisory Board.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held in the Guenther Board room on Tuesday, May 24, starting with committee meetings at 4:30 p.m. and followed by the monthly meeting at 5 p.m. or thereafter.  All meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend in person or watch the live stream on the college’s website.
