Three New Scholarship Funds Established

 

The Foundation is pleased to announce that it has established three new scholarship funds to provide financial support to Hudson Valley Community College students.

The new scholarship funds focus on assisting women (25 or older), nursing and electrical engineering students. All three scholarship opportunities are both need and merit-based.

The Women’s Fund of the Capital Region Scholarship will award up to $3,000 per student, per semester to women aged 25 years and up who are enrolled in a degree program, have at least a 2.50 GPA and have demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be residents of Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady or Schoharie County. Additionally, Fall 2010 applicants must be seniors in the Spring 2011 semester. Preference will be extended to students who demonstrate a strong determination to succeed academically. The application deadline is Oct. 19 at 4 p.m..

The Women’s Fund promotes the independence, growth and self-determination of women and girls by supporting projects that create systemic change and move women and girls toward financial stability and independence.

The Make Great Things Happen Foundation Scholarship was created by Sharon and Steve Schoenberg to assist students enrolled within the college’s School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies in the Electrical Engineering Technology program. The application deadline is Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.

The William J. Doherty Nursing Scholarship was established by the estate of the late Mr. Doherty. The scholarship is focused on helping students enrolled in the Nursing Program who are pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree and are committed to the ideals of nursing. This scholarship will be offered in Spring 2011.
