Talking about mental health

The Capital District Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers tips designed to make conversations about mental health easier and other resources to encourage everyone to pay attention to their own mental health.

“Whether it be a friend, family member or co-worker, talking about such a ‘taboo’ topic as mental health issues, can be awkward and sometimes it’s hard to know what to say to help and what to avoid saying to make the situation worse,” according to Lorraine LaRock at EAP.

EAP offers the “Do’s and Don’ts of Discussing Mental Health” to better prepare yourself for conversations surrounding mental health.

In addition, EAP offers an anonymous Mental Health Assessment that can be taken for free within your Capital EAP Member Portal: https://capitaleap.org/member-portal/. Everyone should take care of their mental health just as they do their physical health.
