What is the DLE? A Refresher.
SUNY’s Goal with the Digital Learning Environment: Provide a comprehensive digital learning environment across SUNY that is robust, modern, reliable, secure, accessible, and easy to use for faculty, staff, and students. It includes:
- The LMS is the foundation with opportunities for integrating a suite of tools at both the system and campus level to enable and support all of SUNY’s teaching and learning activities.
- Standardizing the digital environment allows campuses to better align with academic and IT policies and SUNY level standards/guidance.
- Less redundancy of tools with an overlap in functionality allows SUNY campuses to maintain or expand their DLE while reducing the overall licensing costs across the SUNY system.
- Flexibility for specific campus-level technology tool implementations and the ability for campus-level administration of the tools.
- Consistent data structures and elements for more efficient ways to support and aggregate/collect critical data for strategic decisions.
HVCC and the SUNY Timeline
While we are Cohort 3 and will not begin our HVCC training and implementation until September 2022, here are some things you can do to get familiar with the new LMS environment:
- SUNY DLE website – go to “Trainings,” and choose either “Recordings” or “Fireside Chat” to view recordings
- SUNY OTTER Institute 2022 (July 25 – 28)– register to attend this online event with a focus on Brightspace
- D2L Fusion Conference (July 20 – 22)– register for the free virtual option
More to Come
Currently, DL is creating documentation on the following; watch for these in the coming weeks:
- Cleaning up your course and course files to manage Blackboard storage limits – which will also function as…
- Cleaning up your course for migration to the new LMS Brightspace (which will also have quotas and limits on storage and files)
- Preparing a migration shell for all your course content
- Things to think about that will need changing, rebuilding, redesigning, and some tips to start preparing those
Once Cohort 3 begins in September 2022, group lab times and preparation workshops will be scheduled as soon as we know our training schedules from SUNY, our final configurations and implementation plans, and we can establish a timeline to assist faculty.
